Who we tested: Zapier alternatives priced and compared
Zapier is the default name in no-code automation, and in 2026 it is also one of the priciest: its free plan stops at 100 tasks and two-step Zaps, and the first paid tier starts at $19.99/mo for 750 tasks. That is why buyers keep shopping for Zapier alternatives. We compared the six options that come up most often against Zapier itself, on current pricing, billing unit, free tier, and who each tool is actually built for.
Pricing as of October 2026 (official pricing pages and vendor docs):
| Alternative | Entry price (Oct 2026) | Free tier | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zapier (baseline) | $19.99/mo annual (750 tasks), $29.99 monthly | Yes — 100 tasks, 2-step Zaps | Breadth: 7,000+ apps, easiest onboarding |
| Make | Core $9/mo annual (10,000 credits), $10.59 monthly | Yes — 1,000 credits, 2 scenarios | Visual, multi-step workflows on a budget |
| n8n | Cloud Starter €20/mo annual (2,500 executions), €24 monthly | Yes — self-hosted Community edition, unlimited | Developers, self-hosting, full control |
| Pipedream | From ~$29/mo annual workflows; production from $99/mo annual | Yes — free to build, no card | Code-first workflows and AI agents |
| IFTTT | Pro $2.99/mo (20 Applets), Pro+ $8.99/mo | Yes — 2 Applets | Personal and smart-home automations |
| Workato / Tray.ai | Quote-only: entry contracts commonly ~$25k+/yr (Workato) | Limited trials via sales | Enterprise governance and SaaS-to-SaaS |
| Relay.app | Shut down September 2026 — do not sign up | n/a | Nothing; migrate if you still have exports |

How we scored
Five dimensions, rated 1–5 as editorial judgments from published pricing, limits, docs, and product structure — not lab benchmarks:
- Ease of use — how fast a non-developer gets a workflow live
- Value — what you actually get per dollar at entry and mid volume
- Depth — branching, code, error handling, observability, AI steps
- Free tier — usable beyond a weekend of testing
- App coverage — connectors and community templates
Results
| Tool | Ease | Value | Depth | Free tier | Coverage | Overall |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Make | 4.2 | 5.0 | 4.5 | 4.0 | 4.2 | 4.4 |
| n8n | 2.8 | 4.8 | 5.0 | 5.0 | 3.6 | 4.3 |
| Pipedream | 3.2 | 3.8 | 4.6 | 4.2 | 3.8 | 4.0 |
| Zapier (baseline) | 4.8 | 3.0 | 4.2 | 3.2 | 5.0 | 3.9 |
| IFTTT | 4.6 | 4.6 | 2.4 | 3.0 | 3.4 | 3.7 |
| Workato / Tray.ai | 3.0 | 1.5 | 5.0 | 1.0 | 4.4 | 2.8 |
Reading the table: Zapier’s lead is ease and app coverage, not cost or power. Make beats it on both price and depth for visual builders; n8n tops depth and free tier but assumes you can run a server. Enterprise tools score well on depth and badly on everything a small team cares about.
The case for each
Make — best overall
Credits replaced operations in 2025, and the value improved: Core is $9/mo billed annually for 10,000 credits (a standard module action = 1 credit), with unlimited scenarios, one-minute scheduling, and webhooks. Free gives 1,000 credits and two active scenarios at a 15-minute minimum interval. Weakness: no-code complexity tops out when you need real code paths or enterprise governance.
n8n — best for developers and self-hosters
The Community edition is free and open source with unlimited executions; you pay only for a $5–25/mo server. Cloud Starter is €20/mo annual for 2,500 executions (one execution = a whole workflow run, however many steps). Pro jumps to €50/mo for 10,000. Weakness: the UI is built for builders, not marketers, and the ladder from Pro to Business (€667/mo) is steep.
Pipedream — best for AI agent and API workflows
Free lets you build with all 3,000+ connectors and no credit card; you start paying when integrations go to production (Startup, $99/mo billed annually, 10,000 usage credits, then $0.012 each). Billing is compute-based — one credit per 30 seconds — so long-running steps matter more than step count. Weakness: it is a developer product; non-technical teams will not enjoy it.
IFTTT — best for personal automations
Pro at $2.99/mo buys 20 Applets, multi-action runs, and webhooks; Pro+ at $8.99 gives unlimited Applets plus filter code. The free plan allows only two Applets, so practical use means paying — but it is a rounding error next to Zapier. Weakness: shallow logic, limited business-grade integrations.
Workato / Tray.ai — best for enterprises
Both are quote-based in 2026: Tray publishes no prices at all (Pro, Team, and Enterprise all route to sales), and Workato entry contracts commonly land around $25k–45k a year per third-party procurement data, with mid-market deals near $60k–100k. You are buying governance, SSO, and hundreds of enterprise connectors. Weakness: cost and sales cycles rule both out for individuals.
Zapier (baseline) — still the safest default
$19.99/mo annual for 750 tasks (multi-step, premium apps, webhooks), Team from $69/mo annual at 2,000 tasks, free tier capped at 100 tasks and two steps. 7,000+ apps, the best docs, and Copilot-style AI build tools. You pay a premium per task because you are renting Zapier’s ecosystem, not raw execution.
Relay.app — shut down
Relay was the AI-first challenger with steps plus AI credits, but it shut down in September 2026 and deleted all workspaces. If any comparison still recommends it, that post is stale — the honest alternatives above picked up its user base.
Free-tier reality check
- n8n self-hosted: the only genuinely unlimited free option — costs server time, not seats.
- Make Free: 1,000 credits and two scenarios is enough to run real light automations.
- Pipedream Free: everything in development, forever; pay only to go live.
- IFTTT Free: two Applets — a demo, not a plan.
- Zapier Free: 100 tasks and two steps; fine for testing, not for production.
The bottom line
The cheapest honest path out of Zapier in 2026: export nothing, mirror your three most-used Zaps in Make’s free tier for a week, and compare the credit burn against your task count. If your workflows are simple and personal, IFTTT at $2.99/mo undercuts everything. If you can run a server, n8n ends the conversation on price. Everything in this table was re-checked against vendor pages in October 2026 — this category reprices often, so confirm before you buy.
