What changed in this comparison
This is an official-source feature comparison checked on October 8, 2026. It does not claim a measured keyword-data match rate, database-size ranking or percentage of features used by customers. Earlier unsupported tests and stale plan tables have been removed.
Semrush’s current pricing page lists SEO, Starter, Pro+ and Advanced offerings, with SEO and AI-search features. The fetched page did not expose reliable base subscription amounts, so an old “Growth $139.88” price is not used as a savings baseline.
1. Ahrefs: competitor research and your own-site audit
The official pricing comparison lists Site Explorer, Keywords Explorer, Site Audit, Rank Tracker and other research tools. The current Lite allowance includes 750 tracked keywords, 100,000 crawl credits and one included user. Those limits are not equivalent to “10,000 keywords” or unlimited competitor queries.
Ahrefs also offers Ahrefs Free with limited Site Explorer and Site Audit access for website owners. It is a useful starting point for your own properties, but does not give you the same access as a paid competitor-research plan.
Choose it when: Your buying decision depends on investigating other sites, link opportunities or content coverage.
Budget caveat: Additional users and enabled pay-as-you-go data can increase the bill. Numeric base prices were not reliably available in the retrieved table; use the official checkout rather than the obsolete $99 Lite assumption.
2. SE Ranking: research, tracking and client reporting
The official subscription page currently shows:
| Plan | Monthly billing | Annual monthly equivalent | Selected included capacity |
|---|---|---|---|
| Core | $129 | $103.20 | 10 projects, 1 manager seat, 2,000 tracked keywords, 250,000 audit pages/month |
| Growth | $279 | $223.20 | 30 projects, 3 manager seats, 5,000 tracked keywords, 2 million audit pages/month |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Negotiated limits and terms |
The page advertises a 14-day trial without a credit card. That is a trial, not a permanent free plan. Annual plans are billed upfront.
Choose it when: You need one platform for repeatable research, rank tracking and multi-client work.
Budget caveat: The Agency Pack is an additional $69/month on annual billing, not automatically included white-label access in the entry plan. Model the required seats, client access and reporting before comparing total costs.
3. Google Search Console: first-party Google visibility
Search Console reports search queries, clicks, impressions and positions for verified properties. It also supports sitemap submissions, index coverage and URL Inspection.
Choose it when: You need to understand which of your own pages Google can see and what queries already produce impressions. This should usually precede paying for estimated competitor traffic.
What it does not replace: A competitor keyword database, third-party backlink exploration or a general-purpose crawler. A sitemap submission also does not guarantee indexing or traffic.
4. Screaming Frog: focused technical audits
The SEO Spider page offers up to 500 URLs per free crawl. It can identify broken links, metadata and canonical issues. The free version restricts advanced functions such as saving crawls, JavaScript rendering and API integrations.
Choose it when: You want a local crawl of a small site or a specific technical diagnosis rather than another all-in-one subscription.
What it does not replace: A hosted keyword or competitor research database. Paid licence prices are currency-dependent on the source page; verify the current local offer if you need advanced crawling.
A practical upgrade path
- Verify your site in Search Console and inspect the sitemap and important URLs.
- Crawl the published pages and repair missing, broken or non-indexable links.
- Identify the missing data: competitor keywords, backlinks, rank tracking or client reports.
- Pay for a suite only when that missing data supports a concrete content or acquisition decision.
For recurring reporting, a workflow tool can move approved exports between apps. Explore Make if you need that automation, but it does not supply missing SEO data or guarantee rankings. See our Make alternatives guide before adding another subscription.
