Surfer SEO pricing runs **$49 / $99 / $182 / $299 per month on annual billing** for Discovery, Standard, Pro and Peace of Mind — or $59 / $119 / $219 / $359 if you pay monthly. **Standard ($99) is the plan most small teams should buy**; Pro does not raise the 360-document cap, it buys daily AI-prompt tracking and 5 seats instead. Annual billing is charged as one lump sum and is non-refundable by default, so only switch if you are certain of 12 months.

Read from surferseo.com/pricing, October 4, 2026. This ladder is new for 2026 — the old Essential / Scale / Scale AI tiers were retired on 18 May 2026 and replaced with Discovery, Standard, Pro and Peace of Mind. Prompt tracking covers ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, AI Overviews and Gemini. Annual billing is the default view and saves up to 17% versus paying monthly.

The real bill: annual vs monthly

Plan 12 months monthly 12 months annual You save
Discovery $708 $588 $120/yr
Standard $1,428 $1,188 $240/yr
Pro $2,628 $2,184 $444/yr
Peace of Mind $4,308 $3,588 $720/yr

Annual plans are charged in full at checkout (Surfer’s FAQ says you are billed for the entire year when you finalize the purchase), so the “per month” figure is a monthly equivalent, not a monthly payment.

The catch: what the sticker price leaves out

  1. “Unlimited” is not unlimited. Peace of Mind’s asterisk links to Surfer’s Fair Usage Policy: 500 documents per month on monthly billing, 6,000 per year on annual, plus 100 brands/domains and 100,000 tracked pages as hard ceilings.
  2. Pro does not buy more documents. Standard and Pro both carry 360 documents. The $83/mo gap buys daily prompt refresh, 5 brand workspaces, 5 seats, internal linking and a cannibalization report — features, not volume.
  3. AI tracking can be a separate bill. Since July 2026 Surfer sells AI Search Analytics as its own product: $82/mo for 50 prompts/day, $158 for 100, $308 for 200 (annual billing). Only relevant if you want tracking without the content suite.
  4. The trial auto-converts. New accounts get a 7-day Pro trial — card required, and unless you cancel before day seven the plan you selected starts and you are charged.
  5. Annual is prepaid and non-refundable by default. Surfer’s regulations state a prepaid annual fee is not refundable; a pro-rated recalculation can be requested by email, but a refund only follows if Surfer accepts.
  6. API is top-tier only. Programmatic access sits on Peace of Mind and Enterprise (no sandbox — every request consumes real limits). Extra seats are bundled per tier (1/3/5/10) with no published overage seat price.

Which Surfer plan is actually right for you?

Discovery ($49/mo) — solo creators testing Surfer or running one site. 120 documents a year is roughly two optimized posts a month plus re-optimizations. One seat only: the moment a contractor needs access, this plan fights you.

Standard ($99/mo) — the default. 360 documents, 3 seats (SEO, writer, freelancer), 25 tracked prompts weekly, one brand workspace. If your invoice needs to stay flat and your team is three people or fewer, stop here.

Pro ($182/mo) — buy it only for what it adds over Standard: daily prompt refresh, 5 brand workspaces, 5 seats, 200 tracked pages, internal linking and cannibalization reporting. If you wanted “more articles,” this is the wrong rung — that is Peace of Mind.

Peace of Mind ($299/mo) — uncapped output under fair use (500 docs/month), 10 seats, unlimited workspaces, API access and a dedicated CSM. For agencies billing content work, one client retainer usually covers the jump.

Enterprise (from $999/mo) — SSO, white-label, advisory, custom limits. Only worth a call if procurement requires SSO or client-facing logins.

Money-saving moves

  1. Stay monthly until you are sure — the annual saving ($120–720/yr) is real, but it costs you refund flexibility.
  2. Run the 7-day trial on real work — optimize five live articles, then cancel before day 7 to avoid the auto-conversion.
  3. Do not upgrade Standard → Pro for volume — the document cap is identical.
  4. Skip AI Search Analytics if you are on Standard or Pro already; the plan bundles 25–50 tracked prompts.
  5. Start on Discovery if you are a solo operator; upgrade only when you hit the 120-document ceiling or need a second seat.

Frequently asked questions

What did Surfer’s 2026 tier rename change? Essential, Scale and Scale AI were retired in May 2026. The live ladder is now Discovery ($49), Standard ($99), Pro ($182) and Peace of Mind ($299) on annual billing.

Does Surfer have a free plan? No permanent free tier — a 7-day Pro trial with a card required is the only free path.

Is the unlimited plan really unlimited? No. Fair Usage sets it at 500 documents per month (monthly billing) or 6,000 per year (annual).

What is the cheapest way to use Surfer? Discovery at $49/mo billed annually ($588/yr), or $59 if you pay monthly.

The bottom line

Surfer SEO pricing is a document-and-seat ladder, not a feature ladder: Discovery $49 is a solo test, Standard $99 is the real product for small teams, Pro $182 adds daily AI-prompt tracking without extra documents, and Peace of Mind $299 is the only self-serve rung with unlimited documents (fair use: 500/mo) and API. Buy monthly first, upgrade to annual when the math is certain — all figures verified on Surfer's official pricing and docs pages, October 4, 2026.
