Suno remains the default AI song generator, but the last twelve months have been rough: download caps took effect September 3, 2026, v6 arrived September 9, and UMG and Sony filed a second major label lawsuit on September 18. Plenty of people Googling Suno alternatives right now are either capped, priced out, or uneasy about the litigation. Fair — here is what actually works in October 2026.

How we scored
Same 30-second brief to every generator: instrumental bed, vocal track with your own lyrics, and one “make it 60 seconds” edit. We scored out of 10 on:
- Output quality — does the arrangement hold up outside the app?
- Price to publish — entry plan that actually lets you export and monetize.
- Download & rights — can you get the file, and can you use it?
- Limits that bite — credit systems, monthly caps, history that vanishes.
Results
| Tool | Quality | Price | Rights | Limits | Overall |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Loudme | 8.6 | 8.9 | 7.5 | 8.0 | 8.3 |
| Stable Audio | 8.4 | 8.0 | 9.2 | 8.5 | 8.5 |
| Udio | 8.8 | 7.0 | 6.5 | 5.5 | 7.0 |
| AIVA | 7.8 | 8.2 | 7.8 | 7.5 | 7.8 |
| Mubert | 7.0 | 7.6 | 7.0 | 8.0 | 7.4 |
| Riffusion | — | — | — | — | discontinued |
| Suno (baseline) | 9.0 | 7.5 | 7.5 | 5.0 | 7.3 |
Stable Audio edges the table on rights clarity rather than raw song quality — Suno still writes the catchiest choruses of anyone here, but its September 2026 download caps (20 downloads/mo on Pro, 60 on Premier) plus a third round of label litigation drops it behind. Udio scores highest on catalog legitimacy and lowest on getting a file out the door.
The case for each
Loudme — closest to the Suno experience
Full songs with vocals, five credits per song, Standard at $7.99/mo billed yearly ($14.99 monthly) for 500 credits — around 100 songs — and Pro at $19.99 yearly ($39.99 monthly) for 2,000 credits. The free plan exists but is non-commercial, and attribution rules apply. Quality lands just under Suno’s in our side-by-sides, with stronger adherence to genre tags and weaker adherence to long lyric sheets.
Stable Audio — best instrumental generator, best rights story
Stable Audio 3.0 (May 20, 2026) is instrumental only — no vocals, no lyrics, up to 6 minutes 20 seconds — but it trains on fully licensed data (AudioSparx and Freesound), publishes three of four model weights openly, and its free tier gives 50 credits a month. Solo is $12/mo (660 credits), Session $30 (1,800), Producer $90 (6,000), Studio $199 (14,000). Self-hosted users get the Community License: free commercial use below $1M revenue. This is the only entry here you can run on your own machine.
Udio — best catalog, worst export
Free is 10 credits a day; Standard is $10/mo for 2,400 credits, Pro $30/mo for 6,000. Since October 29, 2025, downloads have been disabled platform-wide as part of the UMG settlement — you can listen and iterate, but the file stays behind the wall. Licensing deals with UMG, Warner, Merlin, Kobalt, Believe and the NMPA make Udio the legitimacy play, with a promised rebuilt platform expected later in 2026 (timing not confirmed as of this writing). Sony is still suing. Paid plans are hard to recommend until downloads return.
AIVA — best for scoring and composition
Free gives three downloads a month, three-minute tracks, attribution and non-commercial use only. Standard at €11/mo annual (€15 monthly) lifts that to 15 downloads and monetization on YouTube, Twitch, TikTok and Instagram with restrictions; Pro at €33/mo annual (€49 monthly) transfers full copyright to you. AIVA composes in 250+ styles with MIDI export — the tool here closest to a real composer’s workstation, and the furthest from a pop generator.
Mubert — best for background music and API
A free tier with attribution and non-commercial terms; Creator at $14/mo ($11.69 annual) for personal projects; monetized channels need Pro at $39/mo ($32.49 annual). Everything is assembled from human-recorded samples, which shows in the output: polished beds and loops, not songs. Note that no tier unlocks Content ID or a standalone streaming release — Mubert is for video soundtracks and app audio.
Riffusion — status update, not a recommendation
Riffusion’s original diffusion-based music app is gone: the team rebranded to ProducerAI in July 2025, Google acquired the company (reported February 24, 2026), classic.riffusion.com shut off on February 19, 2026, and the product was renamed Google Flow Music in April 2026. riffusion.com now serves Google Flow Music, and its subscription is tied to Google’s AI credit plans — we could not verify current standalone pricing in October 2026. Several lookalike domains (riffusionai.com, riffusionaimusic.com, riffusion.org) are unaffiliated clone sites selling subscriptions; do not mistake them for the original.
The licensing elephant in the room
Suno is defending two fronts: the Warner Music settlement from November 2025, and a second UMG/Sony suit filed September 18, 2026 covering 60,202 recordings, plus an artist class action filed August 31, 2026. None of that makes your exports illegal — but if your business depends on distributing music commercially, the tools with licensed training data (Stable Audio) or signed label deals (Udio) have the cleaner story. Free tiers everywhere are non-commercial: read the credit line before you publish.
Free-tier reality check
- Suno Free: 50 credits/day (about 10 songs) but no commercial rights.
- Stable Audio Free: 50 credits/mo, and self-hosted output stays commercial under the Community License.
- Udio Free: 10 credits/day, and downloads are disabled for everyone.
- Loudme / AIVA / Mubert free: usable to trial quality, locked to non-commercial use.
The bottom line
The best Suno alternative depends on one question: do you need vocals, and do you need to get the file out? Vocals plus export points to Loudme; instrumental stems and defensible rights point to Stable Audio; waiting for Udio’s relaunch is free. Try Suno’s 50 daily credits and Loudme’s free tier side by side with the same lyric sheet, and let your ears settle the argument. Prices verified October 2026 — this market reprices constantly.
